Cambodia's Exports to Vietnam Reaches Over $3.7 Billion

PHNOM PENH: For the first nine months of 2021, Cambodia has exported products to Vietnam worth more than $3.7 billion dollars, an increase of almost four times. This is according to the statistics from the General Department of Vietnam Customs. Cambodia has been exporting mostly agricultural products and it has increased its exports of vegetables and fruits by 61 %, cashew by 595 %, soybeans by 549 %, and rubber by 391 %. At the same time, exports of wood products, fabrics, scrap and other goods increased from five to 300%.

Cambodian Rubber Developers Association president, Men Sopheak, Vietnam is a big market for Cambodian rubber, as the country dares to buy rubber from Cambodia at high prices and large quantities. Sopheak is also the president of Sopheak Nika Investment Company.

Although the Covid-19 outbreak has made exports to Vietnam faced few challenges related to handover due to restrictions on the parties and lack of transportation due to the decrease of ships and sometimes experiencing delays in the delivery of goods. Trade between Cambodia and Vietnam increased by 90.9% year by year, while in the first nine months of this year, the trade volume between the two countries was about $7.2 billion dollars.

According to a report by the Ministry of Agriculture, Cambodia's agricultural products have entered 90 global markets, with Cambodia's neighbors Vietnam and Thailand being potential markets for Cambodia's agricultural products.
